About Mathew Sanders

Hi, I'm a freelance interaction designer who can be found most of the time in New Zealand.

I have a strong passion for travel, and to help support this addiction to new places and cultures I've found myself working for New Zealand's national airline, and for one memorable summer, in a Japanese noodle bar in the Netherlands.

Professionally, I have 7 years experience working in the online world ranging from some on New Zealand's largest and smallest companies, but more important than any professional experience are four traits I possess that give me an advantage in designing great customer experiences:

  • natural curiosity about how people think and act;
  • acute perception to observe and listen to people;
  • empathy to help people, and generally make the world a better place; and
  • imagination to see the possibilities that don't yet exist.

Curiosity helps me understand the people that I'm designing for, and the goals that drive their decisions making. Just as much as I love watching people in a cafe and imagining what's going through their minds, I also love imagining the potential experiences that people would have using something that I'm designing.

The empathy drives a passion to make sure that any experiences that come from using something that I've designed enjoyable and frictionless.
